All waivers must be received BEFORE the start of Game 1. If a player is found playing without having turned in their waiver, their team may be asked to forfeit their game.

Spirit & Conduct

One unique aspect of Ultimate Frisbee is called the 'Spirit of the Game'. Ultimate Frisbee stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of the game. The Spirit of the Game is especially important to Baraboo Ultimate, as we have a wide variety of ages, skills, and competitiveness.  Examples of Spirit of the Game etiquette may include:

  • Stopping play to help a brand new player understand the rules when appropriate
  • Not trying to gain an unfair advantage through other means than typical play (i.e. intentional fouls, excessive mismatching of players, shouting as a means to distract a player before a catch, taking more time than reasonable to put the disc into play, etc.)
  • Letting the other player or team know when you have committed an infraction (foul).
  • If a dispute arises on the field, play stops and is restarted with a check when the matter is resolved.
  • When a call is made, throwers must stop play by visibly or audibly communicating the stoppage as soon as they are aware of the call and all players should echo calls on the field.

Thanks for helping us continue to promote the Spirit of the Game!

We will NOT tolerate:

- Offensive language

- Poor behavior and spirit of the game

- Smoking on the field

* It will be at the discretion of the Board to ask players to leave the league who conduct themselves poorly in any way (not exclusive to the list above).

Download official league rules.

Length of game

- Games should start as close to 6:00pm, as possible.

- Games will be played to 13, win by 2. (Subject to change depending on team sizes).

Halftime begins when one team gets to 7.  Halftime generally lasts about 5-10 minutes.

Overtime begins when the score reaches 12-12 (a team needs to win by 2, so now the game would be to 14. If it ties again at 13-13, then the game would be to 15).

Each team gets 1 timeout per half, plus one floater.

Time cap

If for some reason we need to put a time cap on a game:

- Take the higher of the two current scores and add 2 points.  Do this as soon as the time cap starts.  Do not wait until the “end” of the point.

- The first team to reach the “capped” score wins the game.  It is not required to win by 2.

- Timeouts can be used in the cap, but only one, or unless the team has already used all of its timeouts.

Players on the Field

Ultimate Frisbee is normally played with 7 players on the field per team, but we can also play 5s or 6s. Captains can decide how many players to play before the game begins.

This is a coed summer league. There are no requirements regarding how many women or men are on the field.

All subs need to register online on the sub list prior to play. If they are unable to register online, they must sign a waiver before playing. Players under 18 need to have a waiver signed by a parent. (see waiver.pdf)

Games are played rain or shine. However, if there is heavy rain the day of a game or severe weather, games may need to be cancelled. We will do our best to post cancellations by 5pm on game day. We will send an email and also post on Facebook (posts can be viewed on our website as well).

If lightning/thunder is observed during a game, we rely on the following Lightning Policy.

Lightning Policy :

When a flash-to-bang count of 30 seconds is reached, lightning is six miles away. The fields MUST BE CLEARED by all players, regardless of points or time left in a game.

  1. Do not attempt to finish a point in progress.
  2. Players should seek shelter immediately.
  3. Once lightning has moved from the area, play can be resumed after 30 minutes.

Under certain conditions, such as the fields being too muddy or wet, we may need to cancel games.

Who's running this? Baraboo Ultimate was started in 2010 by Michael and Aimee Lutz. The Lutzes have played many years of ultimate in college, club, and summer league, including Nationals and Worlds tournaments.

In 2015, an organizational board was created to help run the league. Volunteers are always needed and appreciated. All registration fees collected go towards expenses or put back into the league.

As always, we are very excited to be playing another year of Ultimate in Baraboo! :) We hope you will join us!

We will be following the school's regulations on outdoor sporting events. Masks are not required during play or on the sidelines. However, if you feel more comfortable wearing a mask at anytime on or off the field, please do so.
